The Giant bicycle company was founded in 1972.

It was a small Taiwanese manufactory that simply assembled bicycles for other brands from components.

Europeans were attracted by China's cheap labor force, so there were always enough people willing to place orders in China.

Also, the founder of the company, King Liu, collected bicycles for Nishiki and Schwinn, which sold well in Europe, Japan and China itself.

In 1980, GIANT Manufacturing Co became Taiwan's leading bicycle manufacturer.

Demand grew rapidly, and in the mid-eighties the new president of the company, Bill Austin, decided to start his own production under the GIANT brand.

An enterprising businessman opens factories one after another in the Netherlands, USA, Japan, Canada, Australia.

And all this in just a few years.

In 1998, the brand made 2,840,000 bikes per year, and in 2006 their number exceeded 5 million.
